DRAWING II

Assignment 1:
On a double sheet in your sketchbook, you will do a CONTOUR DRAWING (ONE LINE ONLY--NO SHADING ) that fills the page. Use a drawing instrument that CANNOT be erased !!!

1. Find a model--- You may use a partner in class and then model for them or use a friend-- whatever-but you DO need a model.

2. Pose the model in an environment. It should be an interior, be creative--Think Mates- (if you don’t know what that means look him up in the library or an art history book!) Your environment could be a closet- a bathroom- an armchair with shelves or a window behind it- a lunch counter at Waffle house- a space in the library- a space in a greenhouse- an unusual place or a usual place for an unusual drawing.

3. Do a modified (yes you can look at the paper a little bit) CONTOUR DRAWING of your model (ATLEAST 3/4 BODY IN THE DRAWING) and all that is around your model in the background--objects- patterns--architectural features whatever you can see--INCLUDE IT!!!!!!!!!!
Fill the page with lines-let them run off the edges. You can vary the width of the line by pressing down or using less pressure on the drawing instrument. Your drawing instrument could be a litho crayon, a marker, a ball point pen, anything that you can’t erase.

***Take your time on this one- A really wonderful attempt will probably take about an hour--( in fact- imagine this- you may need to do more than one to have one wonderful one- you know a warm up or two? when is the last time you did a contour?) You can use someone in class and then let them draw you or you can go home or somewhere and find a model--or you can pose yourself in front of a mirror- be inventive- but I expect to see a finished assignment from each one of you next class--so don’t lie yourself and leave and then not find time to have a thoughtful- concentrated drawing that lets me know you took this assignment seriously.
