Essay and presentation project
Give thoughtful, well explained and well researched answers to the written portion
of this project. You must have fully developed ideas about the topics. Select
the questions that work the best with the artist you choose.
A. Choose a digital artist and research their work and ideas.
A digital artist is any artist or designer that uses computers or other digital
system in the production of design or art.You must submit your artist's name
to me, and a brief description of what they do by September 27th. Begin your
initial research soon. If you cannot find enough sources about your artist you
need to move on to another artist as quickly as possible.
B. Write 1000 word essays for two of the following:
1. How does the work of your chosen artist compare to a famous artist of a specific
movement in art such as cubist, neoclassicism, futurism, pop art, conceptual
art, etc.?
2. Research information from reviews, articles, and interviews to answer the
following: Why is this artist’s work important in the scheme of contemporary
art?
3. How does the artist produce their art (be specific about the tools and techniques
used by the artist), and what makes their work technically unique?
4. How did the artist become the artist they are? (What is the biography of
their life as an artist?)
5. Interview the artist yourself either by phone or e-mail to answer their ideas
about the following: How is art changing because of technology, and what is
the future of the visual arts? Is the future bright or full of problems? Why?
You MUST have at least four sources for your essays (except for number 5). Two
may be from the internet. The rest must be from books, magazines, or personal
interviews (e-mail from the artist will work for a personal interviews). You
must site your sources in a proper bibliographic style such as from the MLA
Handbook. If you are unsure how to do a citation ask the Writing Center or reference
librarian on campus.
Essays about your artist are due October 30th.
C. Create a presentation with images, movies or multimedia that describes the
artist's work. Discuss the ideas in your essay while you present the artist's
work. I will show you some methods for creating a presentation with images and
movies soon. These may include a slide show using software such as iPhoto, Powerpoint,
or Apple’s Preview, or video tools such as Quicktime or Media Player.
Presentation Dates:
Remember the date you have picked, and be prepared for your presentation
